《捉鬼敢死队：灵魂释放》是一款4v1非对称多人游戏。游戏中，4名捉鬼小队成员玩家为第一人称视角，将手持质子包、粒子喷射器、捉鬼陷阱、PKE计量器等道具追寻、攻击、制服鬼怪。而鬼怪玩家可从几种不同鬼怪里选择一种，可以在不同地点吓唬人类，可以占领环境中的一些物体，可以利用裂隙在地图中传送。鬼怪也能通过一些手段攻击捉鬼成员。
